What Happened
University Hospital at Downstate launched a pilot of Altera Digital Health Sunrise Thread AI involving 50 providers across family medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, and emergency medicine. The ambient assistant records doctor patient conversations and drafts structured clinical notes inside the Sunrise EHR. Providers review and approve notes across more than 900 encounters, reducing manual data entry.
Other health systems report similar efficiency gains. The Permanente Medical Group logged 15,791 hours saved across 2.5 million patient encounters involving 7,260 physicians. Intermountain Health achieved a 27 percent reduction in time spent in notes per appointment among clinicians using Dragon Copilot for 10 or more visits.
